New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will on Tuesday inaugurate a series of initiatives focused on agri-credit and crop insurance for the benefit of farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is launching these initiatives to revolutionize agriculture in India with the aim of enhancing financial inclusion, streamlining data usage, harnessing technology and enhancing the livelihood of the farming community, an official statement said. Highlights of the launch include the Kisan Loan Portal (KRP), developed in collaboration with multiple government departments to provide access to credit services under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme.

This digital platform provides a comprehensive view of farmers’ data, loan disbursement specifics, interest subvention claims and progress of scheme utilization, promoting seamless integration with banks for more focused and efficient agricultural lending.

A door-to-door campaign will be launched under ‘Ghar-Ghar KCC Campaign’ to extend the benefits of the scheme to every farmer across India. The campaign aims to achieve universal financial inclusion, ensuring that every farmer has uninterrupted access to credit facilities.

The WINDS Manual, to be unveiled during the event, enhances the impact of the Weather Information Network Data System (WINDS) initiative. WINDS, an instrumental innovation, leverages advanced weather data analysis to provide actionable insights on weather to enable stakeholders to make well-informed choices.

It complements DA&FW’s Parametric Crop Insurance Scheme in addition to non-plan parametric insurance programs for crop risk mitigation and disaster risk reduction and mitigation run by the insurance industry.

The statement said the event symbolizes the Government of India’s commitment towards innovation and efficient service delivery for agriculture, with the aim of sustaining and doubling farmers’ income.
